GRAND CHAPTER OF WASHINGTON

 Grand Chapter

Order of the Eastern Star

Dear Members,
The members of the Jurisprudence Committee of the Grand Chapter of Washington would like to invite any member who may aspire for any Elective Office of the Grand Chapter now or even later in the future to join us in an informative meeting on Saturday, October 12th at 10:00am. This meeting will be held at the Shoreline Scottish Rite, 1207 North 152nd, Shoreline, WA. (small Chapter Room)
We will be covering the policies for Candidates, including learning the requirements for the Office you may be seeking and what it entails to avoid any misunderstandings. We also will discuss the interpretation of the Constitution and Bylaws regarding Electioneering.
We are hoping for all possible candidates for ANY Office for now or in the future to consider attending this meeting for insight into the responsibilities and duties of the Office you may be holding.
We will have Past Grand Matrons, Past Grand Patrons, Grand Secretary and Grand Treasurer with us if questions pertaining to any of these offices need clarification.
To prepare for this meeting, we would like to know who might be attending. Please R.S.V.P. to Carmen Olsen-Ivey, 206-522-3460, or joecarivey@aol.com by October 1st.

Carmen Olsen-Ivey, Chairman of Jurisprudence
Pamela Lee, PGM
Gene Ulrich, PP
Darlene Wiggins, PGM
Pam Rookard, PGM

Horse Race Banner

“And They’re Off…”

This famous phrase marks the beginning of a horse race, a favorite sport for centuries.
Whether it’s the run for the roses in the Kentucky Derby or the thrill of winning the Triple Crown at the Belmont, here’s your chance to win it all for Eastern Star.
At the Official Visits this year our WGM, Eileen, has laid out her goal:

• To raise $60,000 to be split between Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Spokane and Brigadoon Service Dogs. More information is posted on both WashingtonOES.org (Registration Form) AND https://www.facebook.com/groups/WA.OES

Here’s How YOU can make a difference: All OES members are encouraged to join in the fun and train their own ‘horse’ and compete in our ‘Race to Greatness.’

How it will work:

• Form a team and choose a name for your ‘horse’ then enter the race!
• You can enter solo or with a few others. You can enter as a Chapter (Lackamas, for example) or a group (such as Wrangler Deputy Instructors) or even a region (NWW)!
• Once you have entered your horse, then its off to the races! Every dollar you raise for your ‘horse’ represents one length (in horse racing terms that’s about 8 to 9 feet) which will be added to your horse’s total.
• The winner will be the horse with the most lengths at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025. Our team is working on prizes for the top three horses. Stay tuned.
• How Do I Raise Money? You can start right away by planning and putting on a community fundraising event. Be creative! Host a Bunco, Cheese, and Wine party and invite chapter members, friends and family. Have a booth at a community fair and sell crafts or home-baked goods to support your horse. Make plans to participate in the ‘slug crawl’ event which will be held once again this year.

Important Health Message:

Dear OES Members - once again COVID is on the rise, and RSV and flu are ramping up soon as well. PLEASE do not attend any Eastern Star function if you are not feeling 100% well. After a recent Eastern Star function became a COVID spreader event, it is obvious that we need to be more cautious. No OES event is so important that you need to attend if you are not feeling well, and those most at risk may wish to start masking. Let us "love one another" by keeping everyone safe.emoji masked face clip art
