Hi Connie - I thought you might be interested in putting something in
the Stars of Washington about our visitors to our chapter from Prince Hall.
Doric Chapter was honored on March 27th to have seven members of Prince
Hall Eastern Star attend our meeting. GWP James H. Powell, Jr; Bennie Sue
Wright, PGM; Marcia McDaniel, GAM; Allison Braswell, Grand Trustee; Michelle
Powell, Deputy Grand Matron; Latosha ?, WM of Olympic Chapter in Tacoma;
and their Associate Conductress. We had initiation that evening of a new
member and they were really impressed that we memorized our ritualistic
work. In the minutes of the previous meeting, it was mentioned that we were
having a pajama party that evening and they wanted to know what we
did. After the meeting we had a delightful time visiting with each of them.
As Worthy Matron of Doric Chapter, I was thrilled to have the Prince Hall
members attend my last meeting of the year and we hope they will return to
our chapter many times.
As many of you know, Sister Doris had back surgery several weeks ago to
correct the pain and numbness in her feet and hips. The prognosis looks
great but am sure that she and her care-giver, Bill, would appreciate cards,
emails, and visits! They both need our encouragement and well wishes right
now so lets keep the mailman busy and the computer lines, also. Most
important, lets keep them in our prayers.
Please, I would appreciate it if you could include this note in the next
"Stars" if you have room. Thank you. Paulette Schlee

Urgent ..
It is a bona fide virus; hence, the warning. Any
email with 'Mail Server Report' in the subject line is a new virus AND
should not be opened. It comes with an attachment in 'zip format'.
Apparently, there is a Zip file attached; so, be very leery of anything with
a zip file on it. The message tells you that a worm was detected in an
email that YOU sent out and asks you to open and install the attachment to
fix the problem. DO NOT DO IT! It IS the problem!

Past
Worthy Grand Organist's daughter injured ...
Marcia
Carlson's youngest daughter Darcy was injured in 3-wheeling accident on
Friday afternoon. She went over a ridge and there was a 50 ft drop. Even
though she jumped off the 3-wheeler (which was a mangled mess) saving
herself from a 50 ft fall she had a compound fracture of her left arm
requiring surgery (pins and plates) and she also has hematomas on her hip
and leg which they are watching carefully. They are giving her heparin to
ensure she doesn't develop blood clots. Where her head was jostled around
inside her helmet she had some bruising and they have been doing cat scans
frequently to ensure there are no injuries. There has been no swelling which
is wonderful and today the doctor said the scan was much better so that is
really good news. Marcia and Bill are in Grand Junction. Your prayers will
be appreciated.

New Chapter Born ...
About 50 members of the Order went to Ajijic, Mexico to witness the
birth of Star of the Lake Chapter, UD. It was a wonderful experience. Ajijic
is an American/Canadian community on Lake Chappala near Guadalajara. Sister
Sylvia and Brother Raul Garcia, Deputies of the MWGM and MWGP did an
outstanding job and are to be commended for their efforts.
Brother Raul told us that this was the first time that an Instituting,
Initiation, Exemplification of the Work and Installation (all in one day)
was done entirely in English. Our MWGP, Brother Bill did all of the work
from memory.
For all you out there who have been concerned about his health, worry no
more, he is doing great. You would have all been very proud of the GGC Floor
Officers who's work was also outstanding.

Greetings all,
Sister Zel Engle our Idaho Grand Organist Emeritus and GGC Friend of a

She is positive as always. She will be in CCU for 2 to 3 days depending on
the tests....and then in the hospital for at least the rest of the week. Of
course Zel and her family appreciate the positive thoughts of OES friends
and especially prayers. I know Zel would love to hear from you...you can
send emails to her daughter

her mailing address...daughters Mary and Collette will pick up
her mail...

Subject: RE: Ethel Siron
Hi Bonnie;
Just read three emails re: sickness of members & thank you for the info.
Ethel was doing fine until Feb 1st. She was diagnosed with dehydration &
went in the hospital on Feb 16th. Found out later (thanks to those in
charge she had pneumonia in the right lung and almost lost her from that).
She spent two weeks in St Mary's Hospital, two weeks in the Odd Fellows,
home three days, another week in St Mary's and came home 20th. She is not
doing well. As you are aware, she has cancer in the right kidney and cancer
nodules in both lungs. She was on "Sutent" three times around which in 40%
of the time will reduce the cancer but you are just buying time. She could
not tolerate the "Sutent" and the doctor stopped it. She is now on "Nexavar"
which is taken daily, two tabs in the A.M. two tabs in the P.M. It also is
suppose to do what "Sutent" does?? I have her at home caring for her with
Adventist Home Health checking on her & I will have a CNA to come in and
help with personal care. We are taking it one day at
a time. Our nurse tells us that at her age it will take 6-8 weeks to get
her strength back from the pneumonia. Her big thing particularly at night
in "anxiety" attacks. Her medicine helps her some but not completely.
Please pass to those with emails. Wish I was the one who could give you
some good news.

HI ... There are two surgery updates first one for Bill Vidunas Pyramid
Ct. member. 2nd one is from Bernice Wallace member of Lakewood Ct.
Fri, 30 Mar 2007 02:21:53 +0000
Hi, This is Shelley, Bill's #2 daughter.
I'm please to report that Dad came out of the aneurysm surgery
doing slightly better than the Doctor expected. The repairs went
great, Dad's kidneys are both working, and he was breathing on his own
within 2 hrs after the surgery.
We got to see him briefly at about 4:30. He was already cracking
jokes, so I know he'll be just fine. (I would have worried if he
didn't have his trademark sense of humor. He's at Virginia Mason
Hospital in Downtown Seattle, 7th Floor ICU for the next couple of
days, then he'll get moved to a regular hospital room.

Subject: Surgery Update
Just a note to let you all know that I had an angiogram on Wednesday
and they found 2 coronary blockages that needed intervention procedure.
One
was in the front of the heart and they put one stent on it and one was in
the back of the heart and they put three stents on that one. Because of
the type of stent that they used I will only have to wait 4 to 6 weeks for
my breast surgery, instead of the three months that the cardiologist first
stated. I stayed overnight in the hospital and was released in the
morning. I will have to be fairly quiet for 2 or 3 days and then can
start doing some exercising and routine activity. I want to thank
everyone for their calls, cards, e-cards, and e-mails.
Bernice Wallace
Please pass this information on to those who do not have e-mail. Thank
you.

Hi. Thanks to everyone who sent cards and prayers our way these past two
weeks. Richard is doing very well. He is building up his strength, got
dressed yesterday and rode along while I did some errands. He plans to be up
and about if his progress continues very soon. We will be forever thankful
for the many prayer chains he was put on and for its healing power.

NEW SCAM ... BEWARE!
Here's another credit card scam again making the rounds. I checked it out
at Snopes as well, and it's credible. Word to the wise... If it saves any
of us money and a little more hair, it's worth it.
New
Credit Card Scam Snopes.com <http://snopes.com/>
says this is true.
See this site -
http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp
<http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp>
.
This
one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except
the one piece they want.
Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it.
This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA &
MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to
protect yourself.
One
of our employees was called on Wednesday from "VISA", and I was called on
Thursday from "Master Card".
The
scam works like this: Person calling says, "This is (name), and I'm calling
from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460.
Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling
to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of
bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a
Marketing company based in Arizona ?" When you say "No", the caller
continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is
a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497,
just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your
next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that
correct?"
You
say "yes". The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud
investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number
listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security.
You
will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6
digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?"
Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, "I
need to verify you are in possession of your card". He'll ask you to "turn
your card over and look for some numbers". ; There are 7 numbers; the first
4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers' that
verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you
sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The
caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller
the 3 numbers, he'll say, "That is correct, I just needed to verify that the
card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you
have and hangs up.
You
actually say very little, and they never ask for or and states, "Don't
hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up.
You
actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card
number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20
minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA Security
Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase
of $497.99 was charged to our card.
Long
story - short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account.
VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit
PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell
them you'll call VISA or Master card directly that verification of their
conversation. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything
on the card as they already know the information since they issued the
card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're
receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see
charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late
and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.
What
makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a "Jason
Richardson of Master Card" with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam.
This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as
instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these
reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam
is happening.
Please pass this on to all your family and friends. By informing each
other, we protect each other.

THE EASTER GIFT
by Diane Dean White
It had been a busy winter adjusting to a new school for the children,
as well as making friends and feeling settled in a suburb of Atlanta.
With two in elementary and one in junior high it was a fragile age,
and building friendships without peer pressure was important.
The days were warm and the azaleas were out in full bloom by mid
February. The new life and spring flowers helped us to enjoy our new home.
We had joined a nearby church and met a number of people who were
friendly and included us in the social events, always thinking of our
children as well.
We knew Easter was coming and our family was back in Michigan. At
night, as my husband and I were talking, I shared some of my feelings about
the area still not feeling like home and I was concerned about the kids and
how different it was for them in a southern city, coming from northern
roots.
We both agreed that the church family was a big help as people from
all over were part of the congregation and we felt secure that the Lord
would work things out in His own timing.
One afternoon I received a phone call from a lady that I had come to
know at church. Our children were the same ages and I felt instantly drawn
to her. She had called to invite us over for Easter dinner. I was so touch
by this generous offer and delighted to have something for the children to
look forward to as well as fellowship for Steve and me.
After Easter services we followed them back to their home. It was a
large welcoming house, and my eyes immediately fell on the bowl of colorful
finger Jello that had been cut up into squares and placed on the buffet.
The table was adorned with colored eggs and flowers, and the children were
seated together where conversation could flow easily.
I thought about how God brings people into our lives at just the right
time and how fortunate we were for their friendship.
We were getting settled and feeling like the south was almost as good
as our northern home when Steve came home and announced that they wanted him
to consider another position, but it would mean moving -- a move back to
Michigan. Wow!
I guess my excitement was quite evident and
then I saw the faces on our children.
"Home again?" said the oldest. "I vote,
YES!" The others were in total agreement.
The days packing boxes took some time but soon our departure was upon
us. On the day of the move, I wondered how we would get everything done.
Just then, our friends arrived with some people from the church and pitched
right in.
I remember thanking my friend for being such an encouragement to me
and for my family during the months we had lived in the Atlanta suburb. She
simply said, "Just pass it on." She never took credit for anything -- she
just praised the Lord for everything. I was so grateful they were in our
lives.
After returning to Michigan I realized I had neglected to get their
address and I contacted the church In Atlanta.
I received the strangest reply... They had
no record of a family by that name attending. However, they did remember us
and wished us well.
I made a telephone call to the church secretary the next day. She
remembered my letter but she had no idea who I could be referring to. I
explained the names and ages of the children, where they lived and what cars
they drove. She was sorry.
That evening when Steve got home I told him
about the conversation and how our friends from Atlanta weren't part of the
church. How ridiculous did that sound? They were in the services with us
and other functions. I tried to contact them by telephone but the number
was disconnected.
Steve and I looked at each other. We weren't going to question God on
this one, but we certainly thanked Him in prayer.
Whenever I make finger Jello for our grandchildren I always think
about a special Easter meal near Atlanta years ago when God gave us some
warm and caring friends that I will never forget.

MASONIC NEWS
Prayers needed ... MWB John McNab
MWB John McNab was admitted to United General Hospital in Sedro-Wolley
on Friday afternoon, March 30. The doctors have not determined if it is
pneumonia or congestive heart failure, or a combination of both. I visited
with John last night and again this afternoon and he looks 100% better
today. Still a long way to go for full recovery. He is in room 380 and
will remain in the hospital for several more days. Please keep him in your
thoughts and prayers at this time.
** WB Dave Cooper, Secretary, Burlington-United #93
(4/1/07)
I just talked to MW John McNab Via
telephone. He is better but no energy and they still have not determined
what exactly his problem is. It may be either the lungs which were so
cloudy in the x-ray that they could not even see the heart behind them or it
may be the heart. Either way they were just getting him ready to go down
for an MRI. He realizes that he will not be coming home for a while.
He is in room 380 at United General Hospital
in Sedro-Wolley. The phone there is 360-856-6021.

Digger Update
I visited with Digger on Thursday and found encouraging progress. He no
longer needs speech therapy. His cognitive abilities are unimpaired, and he
is raising cane with the nurses.
The therapists are working on the left leg and left arm. He has
mobility in the leg but it is weak. He is able to exert some resistance to
pressure on the arm and feels some tingling in the arm.
He is getting around in a wheel chair and spending some time on the
computer.
All in all, the staff feels encouraged.
Prayers and good thoughts are in order.
For those wishing to send a card, the address follows:

The Rusty Mason “Degree”
April 18th
7 p.m.
Audubon Park Lodge
Are you feeling a
little rusty, or know a Brother Mason that hasn’t been to a Lodge Stated
Meeting because he is rusty and can’t remember some of the proficiency?
This is a great
way to get back in the “swing of things”, so that you will feel confident
and at ease. The basics will be covered for the 3 degrees, and if time
permits, other aspects of floor work will be covered.
The Lodge will be
tyled, but this will not be a Stated or Special meeting. Just an evening of
friendship and renewal with friends and Brothers. A current dues card or a
Brother that will vouch for you is all that is necessary to attend.

CHIPS update ...
To the members of the WA-CHIP's Board and the Masonic
Publications and friends your assistance in this effort and help in letting
the Masonic Family and friends know will be greatly appreciated.
Brethren,
Friends, Brothers, Sisters, and Members of the Masonic Family your help
is needed. The weekend of June 22nd and 23rd will bring some very well know
names to the Seattle area.
Over the past 3 years the organization I am speaking about has help
promote WA-CHIP's and will again be assisting thru TV and Radio
announcements in promoting the program. What I am asking, is that in return
for their continued support we join them if we have the time available at
their Show Case and meet and thank them for their continued support. The
groups I am talking about are REP's (the Radio Enthusiasts of Puget Sound)
and REN (the Radio Enthusiasts Network for the Visually Impaired).
You will as in the past get a chance to meet those participating in the
Show Case. This year the Show Case will be held at the Coast Hotel in
Bellevue. Scheduled performers will be; Eddie Carroll, Chuck McCann, Dick
Van Pattern, Dick Beals, Gil Scraton Jr., Kathryn Crosby, Donald Buka, Frank
Breese, Rosemary Rice, Gloria McMillian, Esther McVey, plus several local
radio personalities. This event will be taking place on June 22nd and 23rd.
One of the reenactments planed is the Jack Benny Show.
What I am asking brethren is if you want to meet with people who care
about the community as much as we as Masons do and if you have the time come
to the Show Case and enjoy some great entertainment of the past live and in
person.

JOKES
Gladys Dunn recently moved to
a retirement community in a small town. One beautiful Sunday morning she
walked to the church not far from her apartment. She was in awe of the
lovely structure, as well as music from the choir. She wasn't too impressed,
however, with the sermon. She thought it was rather uninspiring, and as she
looked around the church, she noticed many of the parishioners nodding off.
When the
reverend finished he encouraged the congregation to greet those sitting next
to them.
Gladys turned toward the man on her left, who had fallen asleep and was
stretching trying to wake up. He smiled at her, and Gladys returned the
smile.
She politely offered her hand and said, "I'm Gladys Dunn."
"You and me both!" the man replied.

While waiting in
line at the bank, a coworker developed a very loud case of hiccups. By the
time he reached the teller's window, the hiccups seemed to have worsened.
The teller took my friend's check and proceeded to run a computer
verification of his account. After a minute she looked up from her terminal
with a frown and said that she would be unable to cash his check.
"Why not?" my friend asked incredulously.
"I'm sorry, sir," she replied, "but our computer indicates that you do
not have sufficient funds to cover this amount. As a matter of fact," she
continued, "our records show your account overdrawn in excess of $5000."
"It CAN'T be!" he cried. "You have GOT to be kidding!"
"Yes, I am," she answered with a big smile, counting out his cash. "But
you will notice that your hiccups are gone."

A Blonde was terribly overweight, so her doctor put her on a diet. 'I
want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, eat regularly for two
days then skip a day. Repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I
see you, you'll have lost at least 5 pounds.'
When the blonde returned, she shocked the doctor. She had lost nearly
20 pounds.
"Why that's amazing the doctor said". Did you follow my
instructions?"
The blonde nodded. "I'll tell you though, I thought I was going to drop
dead the third day."
"From hunger you mean?" asked the doctor.
"No, from all that skipping".

Tired of having to balance his wife Cindy's checkbook, Mike made a deal
with her; he would only look at it after she had spent a few hours trying to
wrestle it into shape. Only then would he lend his expertise.
The following night, after spending hours poring over stubs and figures,
Cindy said proudly, "There! I've done it! I made it balance!"
Impressed, Mike came over to take a look.
"Let's see...mortgage 550.00, electricity 70.50, phone 35.00." His brow
wrinkled as he read the last entry. "It says here ESP, 615.00. What is
that?"
"Oh," she said, "That means, Error Some Place!!!"

When I was 28, I was teaching English in a high school where
occasionally the faculty and staff were allowed to dress down. One of those
days I donned a sweatshirt and slacks.
A student came in, and his eyes widened. "Wow!" he exclaimed. "You
should wear clothes like that every day. You look twenty, maybe even thirty
years younger."

Keeping Frozen Food Frozen: Maintain the freezer at 0 degrees F.
Keep the freezer full to maintain the temperature. Don't add too many
items to the freezer at one time because the heat given off by
non-frozen food can cause the freezer temperature to rise.

Clay Pots Have Crusty-White Stains? A salt buildup usually
causes these white rings to occur on the inside or outside of pots. To
remove, first wash the pots to remove dirt and debris. Then wipe with a
cloth that's been soaked in undiluted white vinegar.
-
Getting Rid of Dust Mites in Pillows, Bedding: Wash your pillows
and pillowcases, along with sheets and blankets, in water that's at
least 130 degrees F. to get rid of them. It may be a good idea to wash
bedding at least once a week too. Clean your bedroom often.
-
Cleaning Vinyl or Cloth Lampshades? To remove dust, use a new
makeup or paintbrush. Or you can also grab a microfiber cloth to wipe
off the dust. Clean frequently, so the light shining through will be
brighter.
