Sun Worshipper

The golden sunflower, graceful and tall,
Adds its beauty to the garden wall.

A small miracle, head turning, follows the sun,
Sends prayers to God, the Holy One.

Giving freely of itself, the cardinals feed
Cracking and eating their favorite seed.

They are easy to grow, almost anywhere;
In any kind of soil, they bloom without care.

Why can't we be like them in every way,
Sunny and cheerful, lighting up someone's day?
-- Iris Stroo, Hattiesburg, Mississippi

No problem at all to raise!  Our chipmunks living in the area plant them ... and the finches, chickadees, nuthatches, and pine siskins harvest them!

MESSAGE FROM OUR WORTHY GRAND MATRON

My sincere thanks to the members of Victory Chapter, Millwood, who have agreed to change their Official Visit from August 20th to September 12th.  I am aware that their invitation has already been sent out and received, so please share this information with all those who do not have internet access.  This change enables the Worthy Grand Patron and I to attend the Memorial Service for Past Grand Patron Harry Sherman.

Other changes in the OV Booklet:
  • Diane Osborne, Associate Grand Matron, and her street name is Terrance.
Committee Appointments:
  • Alexandra Schenking Fund - replace Irene Jacobs with Kay Smith, PGM.  This was my error.
  • Charities:  The Associate Grand Matron and Associate Grand Patron ARE members of the committee.  The remaining line officers are Ex-officio.

King County LO Friendship Dinner - Change from February 17th to February 10th.

PGP Harry Sherman
To all the members of Washington Grand Chapter, may I express my sincere condolences on the passing of this delightful and dear man. I feel very fortunate to have been a member of your jurisdiction during Harry's time in the Grand Line and to have been present at so many of the official visits of Sister Sylvia Palmer and Brother Harry during their year.
After I moved back to Reno, I had the privilege of seeing Margaret and Harry many times at the several Grand Chapters in British Columbia and here in Nevada, and he always went out of his way to greet me warmly, and always had time for a brief conversation as to my current OES activities.
His passing surely leaves a large gap in our Order, but his spirit will remain with us!
"Those we hold most dear never truly leave us,
they live on in the kindnesses they showed,
the comfort they shared,
and the love they brought into our lives."
