I'LL PAINT YOU A RAINBOW

I'll paint you a rainbow to hang on the wall,
To brighten your heart when the gray shadows fall.
On a canvas of joy outlasting the years,
With a soft brush of sweetness to dry all your tears.

I'll paint you a rainbow with colors of smiles,
That glow with sincerity over the miles.
On a palette of words I will tenderly blend,
Tones into treasures of sunlight and wind.

I'll paint you a rainbow that reaches so wide,
Your sights and your sorrows will vanish inside,
And deep in the center of each different hue,
A memory fashioned especially for you.

Sadness
Oklahoma's Grand Chaplain, Ruth Douglas, passed into our Lord's loving arms Monday evening at the Official Visit of the Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron at Dewey Chapter. She was certainly loved by all of Oklahoma and will be sorely missed by all, especially the Grand Officers (The Heart and Soul of 2007) of Oklahoma. She was an inspiration to all, always had a smile, and was having a "ball" this year as Grand Chaplain. She was very proud that she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and never missed a chance to let that pride show.
    'Til we meet again.

Telephone number correction ...
Connie:
I just received my housing information for the Grand Chapter   I tried to call the Clarion Hotel using the 800 number.  When one does call the number shown you are requested to call another 800 number and when you do you get someone trying to talk to you about girls and porn.
I have call Reta Retzer and notified her of the problem.  After I made my reservations using the hotel regular number they informed me that they do not have
reservations by a 800 number.
Maybe a note in the Stars would prevent others from getting trapped into this situation.
** Harry Sherman, PGP
Sister Reta called me today with the correct number for the Clarion Hotel in Yakima ... It is ... (800) 896-7966.  So please everyone ... make note!  Thanks!

Snohomish County OES Club Donation ...
Hi Connie,
Would you please put this into the "Stars"?
The Snohomish County OES Club just sent a check in the amount of $1950 to the Grand Secretary for the Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron's Charities.  This was the profit from our dinner and auction held on January 17th in Marysville.  We would like to thank Ann and Kenneth Taylor for chairing this event, Bob Gates for cooking the wonderful dinner, Steve Morgan for acting as our auctioneer and Inga Opitz for providing all the decorations again this year.  Each Chapter provided two auction items and Bliss Settergren obtained several gift certificates for dinner. This could not have been achieved without the help of many others and we thank each and every person who contributed in any way.  This is another testimony to our WGP's motto - Together Everyone Achieves More.
** Marian Smith, Secretary - Treasurer, Snohomish County OES Club
Which brings up an important point.  Whenever you send monies into the Grand Chapter for the WGM & WGP's project, please specify such on your check in the lower left hand corner.  Just write:  WGM/WGP Project!  That way, the monies get to where they are intended.

Update on Clayton Sparks ...
Connie--
Just thought I'd send an update on our trip to Loma Linda, CA.  We arrived Wednesday (Feb. 21st) afternoon.  Good weather all the way down--there was a snow storm in the mountains the next day.  We're settled in the apartment and figuring out where things are (grocery store, gas stations, etc).  Clayton is scheduled to begin his treatments on March 13th which is about a week later than he had hoped but sooner than the 3-4 week wait they told him it might be when we saw the doctor on Thursday.  The Medical Center is within walking distance so don't have to mess with the poor parking situation.  The apartment is about two blocks from the VA hospital so the apartment is between two major hospitals.
We visited Gate City Chapter OES in San Bernardino on Friday night.  They do some things slightly different than we do in Washington but still the same friendly people.  The AM & AP invited us to go with them to a Grand Representative Reception in Victorville on Sunday.  Boy was that a production!  It was on a similar scale to our Grand Officer Receptions without a dinner.  There were lots of escorts and introductions but done very different from ours.  They even introduce all the former Grand Representatives.  There was a couple there from Quebec who also are members in CA and they know Connie Robertson from when she was Grand Representative of Quebec.  Small world isn't it!
Saturday we drove to Indio and met up with Clayton's brother and wife and went to the Riverside Fair and National Date Festival.  Watched the camel, ostrich and emu races and taste tested the dates.  One of the local OES chapters is in charge of the hosts (ticket takers) for the fair.  It is the chapter's fund raiser for the year and they get other chapters to help out as well.  The fair is nothing compared to the Puyallup Fair however.  Clayton wore a tee shirt that said "Puyallup Fair" and several of the vendors said they had been there or were coming again.
Today we're waiting for the CT equipment to be repaired (broke down on Friday) so he can have his scan.

Old news but still cute story ...
The place to be was Astral Chapter in Wenatchee, Tuesday evening, (2/20) where CAROLE LEE WALK was appointed as the new Grand Representative to NORTH CAROLINA.
Janie Larson got to place "surprise technician" by getting Carole Lee to the East under the guise of being recognized as one of the Assistants to the Grand Organist for 2007 (along with Cindy Garrett, who was absent for the evening).     Carole Lee was lead to the piano to rehearse some music....such as DIXIE, CAROLINA IN THE MORNING....then asked to answer some questions regarding North Carolina.   She looked so puzzled as she was lead back to center stage to receive a lovely bouquet of red roses (and she was still thinking she was just an Assistant musician for Grand Chapter), then the BIGGIE NEWS was dropped on her.     WOW....has that lady ever got a huge smile!   Her husband Fred was even MORE surprised if that's possible!     A lovely note was enclosed from Irene Jacobs, the past Grand Representative.   Poor driving conditions in the Passes kept her home in Tacoma.   I did talk to her though and we had a lovely time planning this presentation!
Cards and Congratulations may be sent to:
Carole Lee Walk

NEW COINS ..

Check it out.  It is on pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.  But not on the new presidential dollars!!!
It's true, I have several but never checked till I received the following e-mail.  I truly hope that each of you will consider it to be a personal afront and take some form of positive action for it must be "IN GOD WE TRUST" and it is "ONE NATION UNDER GOD."

Subject: New Coin
Note that the new dollar coin does not have "In God We Trust" on either side.   Another indication of our government's attempt to redefine our heritage.  The U.S. Mint hopes the redesigned $1 coin will win acceptance with consumers.  It's another way of leaving God out.
Send this on and let consumers decide if it will win acceptance or not.

The Difference Between Rich/Poor People?

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.  They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
    "It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
    "Oh yeah," said the son.
"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four.  We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.   We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.  Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.  We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.   We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.  We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."

    The boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.   Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!

"Life is too short and friends are too few."

Hard Day ...
I had the toughest time of my life.
First, I got angina pectoris and then arteriosclerosis.  Just as I was recovering from these, I got tuberculosis, double pneumonia and phthisis.  They then gave me hypodermics.  Appendicitis was followed by tonsillectomy.  These gave way to aphasia and hypertrophic cirrhosis.  I completely lost my memory for a while.  I know I had diabetes and acute ingestion, besides gastritis, rheumatism, lumbago and neuritis.  I don't know how I pulled through it.
IT WAS THE HARDEST SPELLING TEST I HAVE EVER HAD!

MINUTE MAN AWARDS

WGM Joanne Clark is honoring the Masons at the Official Visits this year.  She is selecting a Mason from a list given to her form the Worthy Matrons of each Chapter.  They will be called the "Minuteman" to go along with her patriotic theme. To qualify for the award, the Mason must be a 10 year member of Eastern Star, have served as Worthy Patron in the Chapter, and been active in the Chapter.  The pins are beautiful and were purchased from Dave Hattrick of ID, now residing for a spell in AZ.
So let's give these outstanding Masons some credit for all their work they do for our beautiful Order!  (For July, August, September, October, November, December & January  ... please check in the archives on Connie's Corner on the GC of WA's website ... www.washingtonoes.org

LOWRY'S HINTS

  • HINT 1:  Cleaning Silver:  To clean silver without a lot of elbow-grease, line a heatproof glass container with aluminum foil, shiny side up, add one heaping tablespoon of baking soda, and pour in enough boiling water to cover the item(s). The tarnish will collect on the foil.  Remove the piece, rinse it thoroughly, and polish it with a soft cloth.
  • HINT 2:  Cleaning Window Screens:  Use a rough dry paint roller to clean dirty window screens. This will remove all of the dust, lint and dirt on the screen.
  • HINT 3:  To get musty odors out of a suitcase, fill it with crumpled newspapers, close suitcase and leave for a few days. Change newspaper every two to three days until odor is gone.
  • HINT 4:  To keep a musty smell out of closed rooms, place a pan of charcoal briquettes in the room to keep odor away. It also reduces mustiness and moisture in small spaces. Replace the briquettes every few months. You can also use them in a barbecue later.
  • HINT 5:  Remove a crease in a garment such as a hem by sponging on white vinegar then pressing with a warm iron. Launder as usual.
  • HINT 6:  When hammering in a nail, a slip of the hammer can cause an ugly dent in the surface of whatever you're working on. Protect the wood by using a plastic lid.  Cut a hole in the center of the lid just a bit larger than the head of the nail. Now use the lid as a safety shield while driving in the nail.
  • HINT 7:  Don't spend a lot of money on a food dehydrator when you can dehydrate food in your oven. Thinly slice the fruits or vegetables, place onto cookie sheets or cake racks and place into a 200-degree oven. Prop open the oven door to maintain air circulation. Bake vegetables from six to 16 hours, and fruits for 12 to 48 hours.

JOKES

My friend called his car insurance company to tell them to change his address from Texas to Vermont. The woman who took the call asked where Vermont was.
As he tried to explain, she interrupted and said, "Look, I'm not stupid or anything, but what state is it in?"

Old Sam Johnson goes to his doctor complaining of aches and pains all over his body. After a thorough examination, the doctor gives him a clean bill of health.
"Sam, you're in excellent shape for an 85 year old man. But I'm not a magician - I can't make you any younger", says the doctor.
"Who asked you to make me younger, already?" says Sam.  "You just make sure I get older!"

HELOISE
  • Preventing a Deodorant Residue Buildup on White Cotton Undershirts:  Don't wash clothes in cold water all the time. Use hot water every third or fourth time. Read the care label and use the highest-temperature water safe for the fabric. Also, be sure to let deodorant/antiperspirant dry before putting on your shirt.

  • Removing Ballpoint Ink from Washable Clothing:  Put the clothing item on a towel stain-side down. Dampen a cloth with rubbing alcohol and lightly dab (do not rub) the stain. Then launder as you normally do. Check to make certain the stain is gone before putting the garment in the dryer.

  • Stinky Garbage Disposal?  Check the rubber splashguard around the garbage disposal because it could be slimy and need to be cleaned. Turn on water and pour several drops of liquid dishwashing detergent onto a round brush and then scrub the back side of the guard well. Run lots of water when you're done.

  • To Make a Cheap Room Freshener:  Dab bit of lemon or orange essential oil onto cotton balls. Put into a ceramic or glass bowl, so the fragrance will fill the air. Keep balls out of the reach of pets and small children.

  • When Food Bubbles Over in the Oven:  Get to it quickly, but be careful of the hot oven. Sprinkle salt on top of the burned mess to eliminate the smoky odor. When the oven is cool, then clean up.

AND A WORD FROM YOURS TRULY

And now it is the 11th hour again ... and time to get this production on the road, so to speak!
Do have a bit of a correcting to do right about now!  When sending in monies for the WGM/WGP projects ... make sure that the check and/or the paperwork say that ... WGM/WGP PROJECTS in the lower left hand corner!  That way the monies will go into the correct 'pot'!
In watching the news tonight ... what a pile-up on I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass!  YIKES!  Am glad that we are home, tucked in snug as bugs in rugs!  We have had snow most of the day ... in fact, we woke up to about 5" and then an additional 4"+ fell during the day.  The snow advisory said that it would quit at 4 PM and by gollies!  It did.  4 o'clock on the button!  It has started again, however ... and we thought spring was just around the corner!!!
Ted went into Newport today for clean shavings (bedding) for the chickens ... and here comes a woman down the street like a bat out of the devil ... and, when going through an intersection, had to swerve to miss him!  She ended up in someone's yard ... got out of the car and proceeded to yell bad names at him!  She just could not fathom that she had run a stop sign!  Why is it when a person is in the wrong .. it is someone else's fault?  Anyway, it is lucky that they didn't have a fender bender!  I am glad that I stayed home!
See you on Saturday evening at Grand Ruth's reception.  Do hope that the roads improve!!!
Until next time ... Hearty Patriot Hugs and happy thoughts.
