MOTHERS and MOMS

(a bit late … but if I wait until next year, I will probably forget where I put it!)

wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, "It's okay honey, Mommy's here."

And that when their kids asked, "Did you see me, Mom?" they could say, "Of course, I wouldn't have missed it for the world," and mean it.

bleed when their 14 year olds dye their hair green. For all the mothers of the victims of recent school shootings, and the mothers of those who did the shooting.

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to be peaceful, and now pray they come home safely from a war.

MESSAGES FROM MY MAILBOX...

Cookbook news …

Connie,

The recipes for our 2015 Triennium Cookbook are all typed and ready for the publisher.

We want to thank those that submitted recipes to us.  While typing I was tempted to go try them out and am anxiously awaiting my copy.

It certainly could not have been done without Sandy and Don McAmmond.

They read and reread  found our mistakes and I'm sure there will be some in the final edition.

Again thank you to all that helped in any way at all.

Smoked salmon …

Hi Connie:
Our Jr. Past Patron Bruno makes really tasty smoked salmon. First time they gave me some of his smoked salmon, I sent it to my brother in Yokohama, Japan. He said he never had such a scrumptious smoked salmon in his entire life!  So time to time, I share it with my brother.

He is going through tough time taking care of his wife for over 5 years, who has very bad diabetes, had stroke and was in coma for 2-3 years,
but miraculously came out of it, but it is almost 24 hours care by him.

So a little smoked salmon bring a joy to his life means a lot to me and enjoy sending some to him.  Thanks  Bro. Bruno.
Last one Bro. Bruno gave me was half fillet of smoked salmon and it was vacuum packed by his wife Pat.  So naturally I sent that to my brother.  This was what he said in his return email.
In order for him to enjoy it as long as he can, he created the method:
 1.  He cut it into one serving pieces. He sterilized his knife with boiling water.
2.  He  sterilize by pour boiling water on to each piece and wipe it with cooking-paper.
Must be something new, I don't know what that is.
3.  Wrapped it individually with Aluminum wrapping paper.
4.  Then again wrap each piece with Saran-wrap.
5.  Then, he vacuum pack it with "Food-Saver"
6.  Then, keep it back portion of the top shelf of Refrigerator.
He said he has 30 days supply for his favoured smoked salmon.

Bruno and Pat are very nice people and I sincerely thank them for making someone a little happier.

Idea …

Connie -

Did you ever consider putting a cookbook together from all of the recipes that you share in your Stars of Washington?  It would make a nice annual book, and a good fundraiser...for your favorite charity.  I often wonder about those recipes you come across that DON'T make it in! <G>

Just a thought.  It probably is selfish of me wishing to get all those yummy recipes in a single volume...

TRUE STORY … A lesson that should be taught in all schools!

Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock , did something not to be forgotten.

On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.  When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.
Looking around, confused, they asked, "Ms. Cothren, where're our desks?"
She replied, "You can't have a desk until you tell me what you have done to earn the right to sit at a desk."
They thought, "Well, maybe it's our grades."
            "No," she said.
            "Maybe it's our behavior."

She told them, "No, it's not even your behavior."
And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period.

Still no desks in the classroom.
By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms. Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.
The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Martha Cothren said, "Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you."

At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it.
Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall.
By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.
Martha said, "You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it."

By the way, this is a true story.  If you can read this, thank a teacher.  If you read it in English, thank a soldier.

JOKES

Hospital Admission  (Boy, if this doesn't hit the nail on the old head, I don't know what does!)

Two patients limp into two different medical clinics with the same complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip replacement.

The FIRST patient is examined within the hour, is x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week.

The SECOND sees his family doctor after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray, which isn't  reviewed for another week and finally has his surgery scheduled for a month from then. Why the different treatment for the two patients?

The FIRST is a Golden Retriever. The SECOND is a Senior Citizen. Next time take me to a vet! WOOF!  (Thanks, Ora!!! It certainly makes sense as I called my orthopedic surgeon the other day for my partial knee replacement and am scheduled for 4 December!  I asked for a cortisone shot in the other knee and that would be August!  Well, I scratched that one!)

AND A WORD FROM YOURS TRULY

No time to chit chat … perhaps next issue!!!

To quote friend Laurel Wadley, UT … ‘ The reason grandchildren and grandparents get along so well is that they have a common enemy’! … (Sam Levenson)

Until next time ... Hearty Patriot Hugs, happy thoughts and may God Bless you all!
